Marina

In order to fish for troves in open waters, you will need to set sail in a boat that is docked in a marina. These marinas are special properties located on waterfront – whether it be a lake or ocean where boats can be parked when not out sailing looking for fish. This means that players who own a boat will need to also own a marina property. The first boats that are sold in Upland also come with a marina property for this purpose.

Similar to other properties in Upland, marinas can be bought, sold and traded, but they can’t be built on. Their singular purpose is for housing boats.

Location is what gives marinas their strategic value, as boats are limited to operating within the range accessible from the marina where they are docked. Proximity to lakes, bays, or open ocean will shape exploration routes and fishing opportunities. Choosing a marina is not just about ownership. It is about positioning. Currently players can move their boats freely between marina properties that they own, but once full boating functionality goes live, movement rules may evolve as range, travel, and positioning systems become more defined. Its reasonable to expect similar mechanics for car travel will apply also to boats.

The first marinas are located in the genesis city of San Francisco, and more details of the initial sale can be found here.
