One of the pillars of Upland is your ability to create collections and earn a boost for the assets you hold in that collection. Property collections are easy to understand but NFL player collections are more complex if you aren’t familiar with the sport. This page will explain in layman’s terms the different collections.
The following chart is a subset of collections that require you to hold players of a specific position within that collection. Here are all the NFL player Legits collections. By understanding the collection names, we will break down and explain their logic:
The quarterback (QB) is often called the captain of the football team. He is tasked with calling and initiating the plays, receiving the snap from the center and passing the ball to his teammates as they try to get the ball down the field into the other team's end zone to score a touchdown (6 points). This collection requires you to have 3 Legits of the same quarterback - 2 Essentials, and one either a Memento or a Replica.
The Ball Handlers are referred to as the players who receive the ball (either by hand-off or by a pass) from the quarterback. Once successfully catching the ball without it hitting the ground they attempt to run down the field avoiding getting tackled to the ground. They attempt to make it into the other team's end zone to score a touchdown or close enough for the kicker (K) to kick a field goal (3 points). This collection requires you to have 3 Legits of the same player - 2 Essentials, and one either a Memento or a Replica. The player must be of one of these positions:
- Full Back (FB)
- Running Back (RB)
- Tight End (TE)
- Wide Receiver (WR)
Chain Movers refers to the team's offense who attempt to move down field to score a touchdown. The quarterback and the offensive players have 4 attempts (downs) to move the ball 10 yards. Pictured below, the referees have an actual chain that measures 10 yards which is used as a measuring stick to determine if the ball has traveled 10 yards. If it has, the quarterback gets another 4 downs. This continues until they score a touchdown or field goal. If after these 4 downs they are unsuccessful at traveling 10 yards, the ball is turned over to the other team. In many circumstances, on their 4th down the team will opt to try and kick a field goal if they are in close enough proximity, or they will punt the ball away if they aren't in field goal range. This will move the ball downfield and the other team will have a longer distance to cover in order to score.
The Players that makeup the Chain Movers collection are all the players in the Ball Handler collection plus the Center (C), Offensive Guard (OG), and Offensive Tackle (OT). Those 3 positions makeup part of the Heavyweights collection, detailed below.
This collection requires you to have a total of 11 Legits of players that make up the offense:
- 1 Quarterback (QB)
- 1 Full back (FB)
- 1 Running back (RB)
- 2 Wide Receivers (WR)
- 1 Center (C)
- 2 Offensive Guards (OG)
- 2 Offensive Tackles (OT)
Heavyweights refers to the offensive and defensive linemen. These players are the ones who line up on the line of scrimmage - an imaginary line drawn where ball is placed. This line separates the two teams as they set up for the next play. The job of the defensive linemen are to interfere with the quarterback by tackling him (a sack) or by blocking a pass. If the ball is handed off to a running back, these linemen will try to tackle him or push him out of bounds try to prevent him from advancing down the field. The goal of the offensive linemen is to protect the quarterback and block the defensive linemen from succeeding at their job. All these players are as the collection indicates - heavy, with many of them weighing over 300 pounds, or 130 kg.
This collection requires you to have 3 Legits of the same player - 2 Essentials, and one either a Memento or a Replica. The player must be of one of these positions:
- Center (C)
- Offensive Guard (OG)
- Offensive Tackle (OT)
- Defensive End (DE)
- Defensive Tackle (DT)
This collection includes the positions that make up the core of the defense. Their job is to prevent the other team's offense from advancing down the field and scoring points via touchdowns or field goals. They attempt to intercept the football on passing plays, and tackle the player with the ball on running plays. The Defensive Ends and Defensive Tackles attempt to break through the line of scrimmage and pressure the quarterback into making a mistake that can result in an interception, an incomplete play or sacking him resulting in a loss of yards. Each play counts as a down and if they are able to stop the offense for 3 downs, it is likely that the opposing team will have to bring on the special teams to kick the ball away.
The Players that makeup the Defenders collection are all the players in the second half of the Heavyweights - Defensive End (DE) and Defensive Tackle (DT) plus the players in the Ball Hawk collection, detailed below.
This collection requires you to have a total of 11 Legits of players that make up the offense:
- 2 Defensive End (DE)
- 2 Defensive Tackle (DT)
- 2 Corner backs (CB)
- 2 Safety (S)
- 3 of any of these positions:
- Defensive Backs (DB)
- Linebacker (LB)
This collection refers to the players on defense who are on an active lookout for the ball. When the opposing quarterback passes the ball, this group of players are there to try and block or intercept the ball. If the ball is caught by the offensive player, they must tackle him to the ground or force him out of bounds.
This collection requires you to have 3 Legits of the same player - 2 Essentials, and one either a Memento or a Replica. The player must be of one of these positions:
- Corner backs (CB)
- Safety (S)
- Defensive Backs (DB)
- Linebacker (LB)
This collection is an ode to the special teams. They are specialists that come on the field to do a specific job, whether it be to kick a field goal (kicker) or to punt the ball away (Punter). Below, the Kicker is lining up in preparation of kicking a field goal (kicking the ball between the two yellow uprights). When the Punter kicks the ball away, the center is replaced by a long snapper (LS) specialist.
This collection requires you to have 3 Legits of the same player - 2 Essentials, and one either a Memento or a Replica. The player must be of one of these positions:
- Kicker (K)
- Punter (P)
- Long Snapper (LS)
