Prior to new city releases in the Upland Metaverse, Upland has a sale for city passes, which are a form of Legits. These passes guarantee you the ability to mint a property in the upcoming city without having to participate in the live release. Learn more about new city releases here.
As part of the announcement of a new city release, information about the pass price, quantity, snapshot date, minting window and chance of getting a collection property will be announced. The passes are initially sold in the UPX store for USD, but players can also purchase them from player owned Variety Legits Metaventures. Owning one of these passes also contribute to your collectors score, where block explorers, season passes, and badges also factor into this metric.
Purchasing a pass does not get you a free property. It gives you the right to mint a property – at its mint price. A snapshot is taken at a specific time and date – and this determines which players have the pass in their possession at the time the properties will be allocated. For example, Player A purchases the pass from the UPX store, and sells his pass to Player B after the snapshot has been taken, Player A retains the right to mint the property that was associated with the pass, and Player B is only left with a souvenir Legit that has no utility.
Following the snapshot, the player who owned the Pass will be notified by Upland via email with the property address that has been allocated for him. That player has the ability to mint that property if he chooses until the specified date. He must travel to the property in order to mint it, and he must also have the amount of UPX required for minting. If the player does not mint the property by the deadline, the property becomes unlocked and any player is able to mint it. There is no way for a player to transfer the rights to mint that property to a different player. If the property is a collection property, the mint price will be that of the initial vanilla release, and not the increased price applied to collection properties minted at a standard release.
Passes do not have burn mechanics. Once the snapshot has been taken, the pass no longer has utility attached to it, so the sale and or transfer of the asset to a different player will only grant that player with the Legit itself.
