Stem is be the token responsible for sustaining all living things in the Upland Metaverse. Stem is spent to grow and nurture living items. Aside from being able to purchase Stem from the Upland store, there are several assets that do produce it themselves. These Stem producing assets need to be fed Stem. If fed properly, it will produce more stem that was spent feeding it. The following are a list of assets that produce Stem:
- Totems – all totems produce Stem. Each one is completely unique in how you must feed it and how it produces Stem.
- Ornamental plants – Only specific types of ornamental plants are able to generate STEM. None have been announced as of April 2026.
When it comes to earning Stem, Upland’s goal is not to point players to a single method. It is to create an environment where STEM is constantly being earned, collected, and used across multiple systems at once. When all of these are active together, the result should feel like there are always opportunities to pick up STEM simply by participating in Upland. The following are additional ways players can earn STEM.
- Troves – Specific resource troves are found in STEM-bearing plants, which can then be exchanged for STEM.
- Farming – announced in April 2026 as a future way to earn STEM
