Types of NFL Player Upland Legits

So you have already read the page about how NFTs will replace original trading cards. NFTs allow for so much more. Here we will break down the different types of Upland Legits and based on Upland’s introduction of Legits and the presentation provided during an AMA (Ask Me Anything) with the CEO, we will summarize in how these NFTs will function within the game, and speculate beyond what was said. Additional information was added based on the Upland NFLPA Legits Handbook.

Disclaimer – wherever speculation is noted, the Upland Guide is guessing based on Upland’s description of Legits, as well as the Upland Guide’s understanding of other blockchain NFT projects and games that focus around fantasy sports. This page was last updated on October 2022.

The following are the different type of Legits for NFL players:

Legit Essentials

Upland says these NFTs would “normally be common and inexpensive. Essentials are not limited by the number of mints, but rather in seasonality or time.”

Each league season or year will constitute these different times. You will be able to buy these NFTs within Upland by visiting the team’s stadium to buy the specific player’s Essentials that you want.

Since there is no supply limit to the number that can be obtained, you can expect these NFTs to have a relatively low resale value. Once the season is over and these NFTs are discontinued, it is possible that they might go up in value in the future. For example, a lesser known rookie may not have a lot of minted essentials during the year. Several years later, if he becomes a superstar, the fact that there were not a lot of his essentials minted in his rookie year could create additional scarcity as the demand for his rookie year essential will likely rise, therefore increasing its value.

Having said that, Essential variants also exist which have a small percentage chance of minting one when minting an essential. These clearly have less supply, and for more popular players, can cause an increase in price for these as collectibles. Watch this video to learn how Essential away variants differ from Memento or Replica Away caps and jerseys. Essential away variants are also important for completing one of the Legits collections to get a boosted fan score.

Why do you need Essentials?

  • Sell, trade or hold them as a collectible.
  • They increase your Team and Player Fan Score improving the likelihood of getting an autograph (future feature).
  • Create team related collections for an UPX bonus and additional Fan Point boost
  • Blend them to get a Replica (future feature)
  • Speculation – add them to your team when participating in fantasy football like contests

Legit Mementos

They are rare unique (1 of 1) Legits that commemorate game performances of a specific player. Before each game, players will have the opportunity to buy a Memento of a specific player. Players will have to visit the relevant stadium in order to enter the lineup to have a chance to purchase the Memento. If a player has an above average or career game in one or more of his stats, it will “catch fire”. Of the 5 stats on the Memento, the fire score can be anywhere from zero to five, and is a visual way to show how good that player’s performance was in that specific game. The specific statistic will catch fire based on the player’s previous season’s overall league percentile within that stat. A player who has 5 stats catching fire is extremely rare, meaning that the player had a career game. Since the Legit is a 1 of 1, meaning only one of these is minted, this could become a very desirable commodity for football fans, or fans of that specific player.

Mementos are 1 of 1s, but other players will have the ability to create replicas of your Memento. Mementos contribute twice as many Fan Points compared to their replicas.

Why do you need Mementos?

  • Sell, trade or hold them as a collectible.
  • They increase your Team and Player Fan Score improving the likelihood of getting an autograph (future feature)
  • Create team related collections for an UPX bonus and additional Fan Score boost
  • Speculation – add them to your team when participating in fantasy football like contests

Legit Replicas (future feature)

Legit Replicas are copies of Mementos. To best describe this, think of the Mona Lisa. There is only one original, but many reprints or copies. By merging 5 Essentials, players will have a chance to obtain replicas of Mementos. They aren’t as valuable or rare as the original Momento; They contribute half the number of Fan Points as compared to the original Memento.

Merging 5 Essentials gives you a small chance to get a replica game ball. If the Replica is not a game ball, one of the five Essentials used for the merge will be randomly chosen to influence the resulting Replica. For example, if the randomly drawn Essential is a Superstar jersey, the resulting Replica is more likely to be a Superstar player, more likely to be a jersey, and/or more likely to be from the same team as the Superstar player. Similarly if the randomly drawn Essential is an Impact Player cap, the resulting Replica is more likely to be an Impact Player, more likely to be a cap, and more likely to be from the same team as the Impact Player.

Why do you need Replicas?

  • Sell, trade or hold them as a collectible.
  • They increase your Team and Player Fan Score improving the likelihood of getting an autograph.
  • Create team related collections for an UPX bonus and additional Fan Point boost
  • Speculation – add them to your team when participating in fantasy football like contests

Legit Spotlights (future feature)

Legit Spotlights are video moments of a player tokenized and distributed as NFTs. These moments will likely be personal moments from the player or of a player during a practice and not in game highlights or moments. By owning lots of one specific player Legits, it increases your Player Fan Score and your opportunity to get to the front of the line when registering to get a Spotlight. This also makes it easier to get autographs for that player.

Why do you need Spotlights?

It is unclear exactly what spotlights will do, however this is a very unique way to become part of specific player’s community and following. Maybe it will contribute to one’s Fan Score or maybe it can be used to complete collections in the future. This appears to be a feature that will not be released in the short term. It was briefly touched upon in the Upland Legits Ask Me Anything.

Rigs (future feature)

Rigs will be an apparatus for playing spotlights. There is no additional information on this yet.

Legit Autographs (future feature)

Here is a list of NFL players who have homes in the Metaverse. Chances are you will be able to get their autographs!

Every Legit has the ability to be digitally and officially autographed by the player. The autograph itself is the same for each autograph, however the size and location on the Legit itself can differ. This provides an interesting element to the value of different Legit Autographs. Based on that fact, it is possible that one that has an autograph in a “good” vs “bad” location of the Legit may also influence its market value. Getting a Legit autographed permanently increases its Fan Points by a factor of 1.2. Legits can be autographed after games at the stadium or at players in game homes.

In the real world, you could typically wait outside the stadium after a game in the hopes of seeing your favorite player. These players often sign autographs for fans as they leave the stadium after the game. The same thing will happen in Upland. Hanging around the stadium towards the end of the game, you are able to line up to receive an autograph. Having a higher Fan Points will give you priority in the lineup. Make sure you have an unsigned Essential/Replica/Memento of that player in order for him to sign it.

In addition to getting player autographs at stadiums, you can visit a players house to view their autograph schedules. The more Legits and higher your Fan Points are for that player, the easier it will be to get their autograph.

Check out the Fans Leaderboard at your team’s stadium and see where you rank among other Uplanders. If you’re in the top 3 after the last postseason game, you will win a super rare “one of three” NFT catered to your team! 1st place gets Mint #1, 2nd place gets Mint #2, and 3rd place gets Mint #3.

To move up the leaderboard, collect and boost Legits for your team. Every Legit contributes to your Team Fan Score. The more Legits you own, store in your Team Collections, and get autographed, the higher you’ll rank
