2021 Year in Review

Firstly I want to thank everyone who is reading this right now. Without you, there would be no Upland Guide. In the past year a lot has happened in Upland, and I missed one quarter of it. I entered the Metaverse in April of 2021, which was during the release of Brooklyn, the 4th Upland city. If I’m not mistaken at that point there were less than 30,000 daily active users. I stumbled upon the game after seeing a post by one37pm – a digital media brand owned by Gary Vaynerchuk, better known by Gary Vee, whose podcasts I listen to regularly.

After minting a property that had a really unique street view, but not much else going for it I began brainstorming alternative ways to market such properties. From that idea, my Instagram page was created. From there I had the concept of a property directory, which expanded to a business, community and user directory, and this entire website.

In the first few months I made many mistakes and struggled to understand this metaverse and develop a long term strategy as a player within it. This was all before the creation of spark and Legits. I found many players making the same mistakes I did – jumping head first into the metaverse without thinking long term. This website was created in August with the goal of not only helping new players , but to become an integral pillar of the Metaverse while providing the tools and resources required to help its citizens educate, grow, and develop themselves into model Uplanders who contribute to the ongoing development of the Metaverse and its sub communities created within it. Read more about our mission and vision.

In only 5 short months the Upland Guide website is now reaching thousands of weekly users. We have a growing Discord community of over 1,100 members. We also have our Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and most recently our YouTube channel. Dale the Llama was created as our mascot and turned into an NFT. I was also accepted to the official network of Upland content creators – UCN, Upland Contributor Network.

As a player in the game, I have tried to do it all. I have bought and sold properties for USD, participated in every new city release. I minted my first Ultra Rare property in the Nashville release. I have bought spark, block explorers, structure ornaments, and NFLPA Legits. I have participated in Upland tours, won contests, and sold a property in an Upland auction. Like everyone else I eagerly await additional features in the game – metaventures, cars, the life token, other Legits partnerships, and further city releases. I finish out the calendar year with exactly 300 properties that I own and several of them with structures built upon them.

In 2022, we look forward to continuing be a leading source of knowledge and information about everything in the Upland Metaverse. Whether it be how to utilize the new game mechanics or different strategies. We believe that there is not one single way to play and exist in this Metaverse, and we want to provide different schools of thought to help you find your place. We have lots of ideas and plans on how to help out and give back to this amazing community. With a current focus on the basics and new players, in the coming months you can expect to see us creating more content relevant to players of all levels of experience. After all, metaventures, Legits, and cars will be new for everyone!

As always, we would love to hear from your feedback or suggestions. Leave us a comment on any of our social media channels, email, or our Discord server.

Dale the Llama and I, YK2012 wish you all a healthy and prosperous 2022!
