Neighborhood Ratings : Upland Guide

In Upland, it pays to be part of active communities. With dozens of cities, and thousands of neighborhoods, how do you determine which ones are the best? Upland has come up with a neighborhood rating system that rewards property holders of neighborhoods that excel in creating value as a community for Uplanders. It’s not just pride that is at stake, but these neighborhoods will spawn new collections providing property holders with one time UPX collection bonuses as well as boosted yield earnings. (As of August 2025, Upland has put a pause on neighborhood ratings ahead of the introduction of Uppies. Attracting Uppies to neighborhoods is an integral part of this new feature release. Things like influence score will likely overlap in terms of concept to that of neighborhood ratings. We can expect these two things to be integrated in the future.)

Every season, the top community based on the metrics below, that has yet to spawn a collection (whether it be through this method, or the neighborhood being a predefined collection neighborhood when the city was released) will spawn a new standard collection. Players who are able to complete the collection (holding between 2-4 properties in neighborhood depending on its size) will earn a one time 450 UPX bonus, and an increase in boosted yield earning multiplier (1.3x multiplier) . Simultaneously to that seasonal competition, neighborhoods that have already achieved their collection status are in competition for additional boosted earnings and the opportunity for the neighborhood to increase in collection rarity (ex: upgrading from exclusive to rare collection). Neighborhoods that excel in the metrics below are ones that have the best opportunity to spawn new collection. In order to do that, players will need to coordinate and work together to increase the neighborhood rating. This is not something that can be achieved by a small handful of players – it truly will be a community effort. Any player who own properties in these newly spawned neighborhood collections are able to benefit – it is not restricted to players who have set that neighborhood as their home address.

It is not disclosed the exact formula as to how the neighborhood scores are calculated. It is likely that the different metrics are weighted differently, thus making some more important than others. Instead of players trying to crack the code of how the calculation works, they should be more focused on working together to grow their community. It is important to note that the metrics below are for the first competition only – to spawn a new collection. Once a collection is spawned, it will be entered into the collection upgrade competition which will measure the month-over-month percentage growth in these metrics. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see a list of all the neighborhoods that have spawned collections.

As with all of Upland’s new features, do not be surprised if these metrics are modified in the future, or have additions to them as new features are introduced that could potentially affect neighborhood ratings.

Average Spark Hours (SpH) allocated per property for building Structures

Building structures on properties is what is able to provide them with utility - whether it be residences for players, metaventures, speedways, factories, or more, this is the foundation of Upland. The total amount of spark hours allocated to these structure is the first metric to determine the rating of the neighborhood.

Metric calculation:

Lets say neighborhood X has 500 properties, with 300 of them having completed a small townhouse (950 spark hours [SpH]). (note 1 spark = 1000 sparklet)

300 constructed properties x 950 SpH/ 500 total properties = 570 SpH/property

Average number of residents with a designated Upland Home Address per property

This metric acts to highlight player's loyalty to the neighborhood. Your home (whether in the real world, or within Upland) says a lot about you and what kind of person you are. Choosing to not only own a property in a specific neighborhood, but to choose that as your one primary residence can be a big statement about your identity. The more players who set their primary address for a given neighborhood shows the strength that community has where players want to publicly identify with that neighborhood. Being a primary resident of a certain neighborhood will enable you with voting rights on important matters within that neighborhood.

Metric calculation:

Say neighborhood X has 500 properties, and 20 players who have set their primary residence to that neighborhood. The average number of residents with a designated Upland home address would be the calculation of 20 / 500, which is 0.04.

Note: In the future, we can expect the different structure types to have different amount of living units (more players can live in an apartment vs a ranch house). Land owners should be able to rent out a living unit within their structure to other uplanders who wish to live there, and potentially also call that neighborhood their home.

Average number of Metaventures per property

The amount of metaventures is an indicator of retail and economic activity in a neighborhood. Here is a list of all the different types of metaventures in Upland.

Metric calculation:

Total number of metaventures in a neighborhood / total properties in the neighborhood.

Average spark hours allocated for Map Assets manufacturing per property

Map assets (formerly known as outdoor decor items) are manufactured in factories using sparklet. This metric highlights the sparklet value in creating these map assets that are either purely for visual appeal to decorate the neighborhood, or have other elements of utility tied into them. At the moment, only map assets and not structure ornaments are included in this calculation.

Metric calculation:

Lets say players in neighborhood A have collectively ordered 300 map asset mailboxes for the 500 properties in that neighborhood. Each mailbox requires 35 spark hours [SpH] to manufacture it.

300 mailboxes x 35 SpH/mailbox /500 total properties = 21 SpH/property

Average UPX contributed to the Community Pool each month per property

The community pool is an integral part of the Upland economy. There are many actions within the metaverse that result in UPX being transferred to the community pool:

10% of the sale price of properties on the secondary market (5% by the buyer and 5% by the seller)
5% of the sale price of items in metaventures (paid by the buyer)
Venture dues paid by all metaventure owners paid at the beginning of each month.

The total of these factors are calculated for all metaventures in the neighborhood plus property sales. This metric takes into account the success of metaventures in a neighborhood. How much economic activity is each neighborhood driving?

Metric calculation:

Total venture dues + 5% of metaventure sales + 10% of property sales within the neighborhood / total number of properties in the neighborhood

Number of Paid Sends

Visits to a property can indicate the presence of "foot traffic" in that neighborhood - whether it be through treasure hunting, or visiting metaventures, or just a way of making micropayments to other players, your neighborhood can't be popular if nobody is visiting it.

Seasonal Ornaments

Neighborhoods with more structures that have seasonal ornaments applied to them will see a boost in their neighborhood ratings. Not only will applying an applicable seasonal structure ornament to your property increase the neighborhood's rating, but it will also help you climb the leaderboard ladder for the seasonal ornament challenge.

The more players who regularly log in to Upland and have their home address set in your neighborhood, the better your rating will be.
